The Followers of Jesus as longing. Comments to: adebelak@redeemerluth.com

The Followers of Jesus as longing are frequently surprised by the many visions of God's Reign that are available to us. Sometime that longing makes us pick up our heads and actually see more of what is going on around us. Too often it is easy to be caught in a rut and we forget about the life God invites us to enter. For too many, there is no story or promise that helps them look up and look out. Rather it is day after day of the same thing and no hope for anything else. The Followers of Jesus as longing move alongside such people to both tell a story full of promise for life and to be a part of that life already breaking out in the world. It is then - hopefully - that new people will begin to see - even in the runts in which they feel caught - opportunities for life that pull themout of themselves to live anew.

O God of New Life and All Hopefulness, you bring others alongside us to point to your Reign that is already a hand - a Reign that longs to have us step in and live. Thanks be to you, O God. Amen

The Followers of Jesus as longing. Comments to: adebelak@redeemerluth.com

The Followers of Jesus as longing know the wonder of God's Reign that is not yet at hand and we begin to experience that wonder today. It is experienced by taking the time to step into and live within that which is promised. So, for example, in a world that often becomes a monster that feeds off of hatred and racism and classism, we step out into this world displaying that which we long for: love - community - equality. We long for a new life - we begin to live within it without having it all completely put in place. Therefore our longing can take us out into a life that is not at all appreciated or respected or honored. The Followers of Jesus as longing will not stay within the bounds of what is. We know and see and hear of other ways to live - ways that make the heart of God glad and Creation dance and sing.

O God of New Life and All Hopefulness, let the world begin to dance in sing within your promises.  Amen

The Followers of Jesus as longing. Comments to adebelak@redeemerluth.com

The Followers of Jesus as longing keep seeing more to the world around us. This is not like a longing that is self-centered. We long for the renewal of all things - the healing of all things. Even in the best of days we are able to be open to how life can be expanded and the peaceable Reign of God can enter into more and more of our lives. We long for that more. We long for deeper healing. The Followers of Jesus already see the vision of life within the power of resurrection and therefore, we have an image of that which will one day be. When we long for the creativity of the future, we are not afraid to enter it and begin the adventure.

O God of New Life and All Hopefulness, take us along the way to see and hear and touch the way your promise of life is able to lift us and ground us and bring a fullness of life we often do not anticipate. Amen.

The Followers of Jesus as left behind. Comments to: adebelak@redeemerluth.com

The Followers of Jesus as left behind keep an eye on what is going down all around us. We are left behind to be truth-tellers who do not let the lies of a broken world rule the day. We are left behind to embody the love of God for all of humankind without exception. If there is no one left behind to live and speak in such a way, the powers of violence and hatred self-serving love will take over the day. The Followers of Jesus as left behind have a grand task before us and it is - already at hand - it is already today.

O God of New Life and All Hopefulness, give us the will to step into the way of Jesus and live within the justice and peace and love that is eternally the way of the Christ. Amen.

The Followers of Jesus as left behind. Comments to: adebelak@redeemerluth.com

The Followers of Jesus as left behind have a mission - love the world without end - love the world even as it seems to be falling apart - love the world even when the world chooses to be violent and hostile and foolish. We love the world so that the world may see another way to live. We are left behind with Jesus present with us as us.  After Jesus' resurrection the story line tells us of his ongoing appearances with his followers. He was with them in the flesh. Then there is the Ascension. Most often it is seen as a 'going home' to heaven where he will rule among the heavens. Let's just say 'no'. The Ascension can rather be seen as Jesus now available in all times and in all places. Jesus alive in the world. The Followers of Jesus as left  behind continue the presence of our Lord but now that presence comes to life among us. Therefore here and now is a vitally important time to be alive and it is also the place we are to be - present and full of the life of Jesus. Left behind with everyone - with all - without end.

O God of New Life and All Hopefulness, open us up to your full presence among us that we may become that presence within this day. Amen.

The Followers of Jesus as left behind. Comments to: adebelak@redeemerluth.com

The Followers of Jesus as left behind do not try to escape from what is to come. We stay put and we prayerfully embody the life of the Lamb of God. We become a part of the peaceable Reign even when that peace is not being accepted. We continue to remain - we stay put - we hold onto others - we face the brokenness of the world and we heal the divisions. We are left behind because our God is always in the midst of God's people. God does not leave us alone and God does not go off to watch us move through life. In, with, and under the present time - even the times we would like to leave behind - God is shaping us and moving us and bringing about a new reality by inviting us to stay put and follow the vision of the Christ. The Followers of Jesus as left behind do not promise something else at a later date and time. We are a part of a living promise that life shall be abundant even now - without partiality. Wow.

O God of New Life and All Hopefulness, here in this time and place inspire us again and fill us with life. Amen.
