Redeemer Devotions - February 3, 2012

Adventures... in Hope - Redeemer Devotions

We continue on the way with 1 Peter 1:17- 19

If you invoke the Father the one who judges all people impartially according to their deeds, live in reverent fear during the time of your exile. You know that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your ancestors, not with perishable things like silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without defect of blemish.

WE are a different people - as different as day to night. In the event of the Christ of God - all that was old - all the ways that keep the world spinning around itself - all the blaming and gaming and trying to reach a level of fame at the expense of others - all the powers that try to make people cower - all that demands that someone pay for what we think is wrong - all of this is no more. WE have been judged as the beloved of God. Yes, we may still be that same old people we were yesterday - but the Good News of Jesus the Christ of God - pulls us into something new. And it all happens because that is how our God wants things to be. New life - unlike the ways of the world. So - here it is called ransomed - we are no longer held up by what was. We are free to live as what is. Beloved are we all - and with that comes a life that is as full of grace as the God who is gracious.

Connection: To follow Jesus is not a head trip or an emotional feeling. It may be all that too - but it is a full body - whole life adventure that originates from the reality that we are beloved and that means we are covered with new life that the world cannot control or conquer.

In the middle of what is so common, O God, make our common lives a blessing to the world around us - so that your light will shine forth and make our world new. Amen
