Redeemer Devotions - February 8, 2012

Adventures... in Hope - Redeemer Devotions

Today we press on to 1 Peter 2:9-10. More words of who we are.

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's own people, in order that you may proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

Imagine hearing those words if you always thought that you were a nobody. Imagine hearing those words if you were someone who was living in a way that was ridiculed - or as one who stood out. Imagine hearing those words after you have heard other words that only know how to tear down and judge and demean. Well, I don't think any of us have to imagine hearing those words under those circumstances. I truly believe that we all are a part of the ones who need to hear of a life that is not ruled by the powers that be - the powers who try to make us into whatever they wish. WE ARE - A CHOSEN RACE - A ROYAL PRIESTHOOD - A HOLY NATION. We are baptized in Christ, Jesus, and no other word can define us. Therefore, we are able to step into this day shaped by nothing more than the love of God for the sake of being that love in the world - even if we are called every other name in the book. To "proclaim the might acts of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light" is to live as a people as seen through the eyes of God. That is our spirit - our life.

Connection: Wow. This is a grand coup. This is language meant to lift up our lives and  our eyes so that we will go  ahead and step into the whole new being of God's beloved ones. Wow. That is some step - some life.

In the middle of what is so common, O God, you call us out as you people even as the world around us makes less of us. From your Word, we are handed life we cannot make for ourselves. To you we give thanks. Amen.
