Redeemer Devotions for November 5, 2013

Adventures... in Hope - Redeemer Devotions

This week: God as wrath-less.If you have any comments  - adebelak@redeemerluth.com.

Last week I read about the women in Saudi Arabia who put themselves into cars and drove off to do a few errands or go shopping. No big thing right? Well, it is a forbidden act. Women in that society are not to do that - it is taboo within that Muslim country. They could be jailed - stoned?! When religion allows itself to be so care-less about the lives of any of God's children, I find that to be offensive. This is especially the case when it is done in the name of God. God as wrath-less is probably writhing whenever this is one. God is used so often as the one who will punish individuals and whole groups of people if those people do not act in a way that others have found to be a good way to set up a group or society. God as wrath-less would be laughing at some state senator in Texas who was filmed talking about global warming - admitted it was happening - but then said it was because of 'that group of people' that all of us must suffer until we get rid of them. Really? I think we are afraid of God as wrath-less because such a loving God does not support nor sanction nor encourage our outburst of anger and hate and insanity. God as wrath-less welcomes beyond our comprehension and nurtures life that is free - free indeed.

O God of love and new life, set us free again this day. Liberate our hearts and minds and pull us into your peaceable Reign. Amen.
