Redeemer Devotions for April 2, 2015

Adventures... in Hope - Redeemer Devotions

The Followers of Jesus as a new humanity. If you have any comments  - adebelak@redeemerluth.com .

The Followers of Jesus as a new humanity keep asking what it is that makes us truly human. We see how violent humans can be - all the time. Therefore we say we turn to Jesus to see another way. It is the way of God's child - the image of God fully realized. It is not a life out of our reach. It is a life always available to us. Yes, we stumble and fall quite a bit along the way - and yet we are always invited into the new humanity. That is why we keep throwing water on the congregation when we renew our baptismal covenants on Easter morning. It is like saying to ourselves again - this is our life - our new life - we are the body of Christ alive in the world. Let us go at it. The Followers of Jesus as a new humanity serve. We give our lives for others. We may be going along the way - doing our everyday stuff - working and living alongside folks who are doing much the same thing as we are. And yet, we are invited to prayerfully reflect on how Jesus would be in our place - how would the truly human one interact with others? I find that to be a question that encourages life - it is not one that threatens. It is full of opportunity and adventure.

O God of love and new life, encourage us as we face this day in your image that comes alive within the ordinary relationships of the day.   Amen.
