Redeemer Devotions for April 3, 2015

Adventures... in Hope - Redeemer Devotions

The Followers of Jesus as a new humanity. If you have any comments  - adebelak@redeemerluth.com .

The Followers of Jesus as a new humanity take note of Jesus' antics throughout the telling of the gospel story and we then pause and look at the cross. We don't look at the one around someone neck - the plain wooden manufactured one that is cut just-so - not the nice processional crosses we like to carry through the sanctuary. We are invited to contemplate the loaded cross - the body-heavy cross - the cross that vividly shows the contrast of the way of peace and compassion and mercy and kindness and unbounded forgiveness and that of - well - the world of everyday. The Followers of Jesus know about the new life of the resurrection and yet we always remain acutely aware of the life of resurrection that leads to the cross. Remember, Jesus was already living the life that was raised up - that is why it is raised up. It is the new humanity - the covenant people - the beloved children raised up to follow in the way of the God who is always breathing the life of a new humanity among us. We walk into this day within a vision for life that will not fall for any of the violence and lies that circulate so freely in the world. Lift high the cross and the life that leads to it and the life that rises forevermore.

O God of love and new life, help us rest in you alone - you alone.  Amen.
