Redeemer Devotions for March 4, 2014

Adventures... in Hope - Redeemer Devotions

This week: God as hanging around. If you have any comments - adebelak@redeemerluth.com .

God as hanging around is the body of Christ visibly rejected by the powers of the world for not going along with the powers of the world - just to be considered one of them - or on par with them - or simply at the same table. God as hanging around is life that turns the powers of the world upside down - not simply for the sake of some kind of anarchy, but because the powers need to be turned upside down in order to see what it is to be Truly Human. God as hanging around is our humanity making connections with others and healing the divisions and making a pathway toward wholeness and peace. When bias and prejudice and favoritism brew up a context of divisiveness and fear, God as hanging around does not budge so as to make room for such brokenness. God as hanging around brings the powers of divisiveness out in the open by acting as people within God's Reign and not as the powers of brokenness. God as hanging around may appear to be and 'in your face' action - because it is. And yet, God as hanging around is always life that goes for the fullness of the Love of God alive in this time and place. It may bring all parties into a healing of dialogue or it may mean that this loving presence will be shut down. God as hanging around is an action by God's beloved and it also becomes how those people will be handled by the powers of the world.

O God of love and new life, teach us how to hang around within this day. Amen.
