The Followers of Jesus as holy places. If you have any comments - adebelak@redeemerluth.com . The Followers of Jesus as holy places. We all know that the holy places in the world tend to be places over which people come into conflict. Think of the Crusades - think of Jerusalem today - think of holy places of various religions all over the world. People are getting killed because of places being viewed as holy places. We often do more to protect holy place than to protect the lives of the people who claim to be connected to those places. When the Followers of Jesus as holy places are able to step away from the places we say are holy and consider the lives of ourselves and others as holy places how might we change the world. Wednesday evening I will be reflecting on the passage from Exodus that includes the giving of the ten words. It is near a mountain lost in time. No holy shrine. And yet, what comes away from that mountain was the notion of a holy people - holy lives - people as holy places to which others can come and be safe. Those 'commandments' were to be the building blocks of holy places called the lives of God's people. Wow, we are, as followers of Jesus, also holy places wandering around a violent and selfish world bringing new life - holy life - no longer tied to war-torn physical buildings or lands. O God of love and new life, raise up the holy places of our hearts that our lives will give witness to your life that cannot be contained or limited to mere geographical destinations. Amen. |
