Redeemer Devotions for June 3, 2014

Adventures... in Hope - Redeemer Devotions

The Reign of God as movement. If you have any comments - adebelak@redeemerluth.com .

The Reign of God as at hand places us right into the middle of all that is possible within God's peaceable Reign. We are not merely placed before new options and opportunities. We are in the presence of life that fits together - where justice and mercy and forgiveness and loving kindness are foundational to everything that is at hand for us. The opportunity is one that turns us into a part of that power of God that is at hand. We are invited to step into it no matter how we look at our lives and no matter how others look at us. The important notion is that we move - we enter into it. The Reign of God as at hand allows us to move as we are able with the promise that we will be taken more deeply into the life of this Reign. There is no need to be a person of great influence or status in order to take the hand of God's Reign and begin to live a new life. In fact, I would suggest that many of the saints of old who we remember because of the way their lives embodied the character of God's Reign were often so common - ordinary - without distinction. And yet, as we trust that this invitation to turn and walk in God's Reign at hand, we will be moved into life we may have thought was not within our reach - life that brings peace and rest and world-shaking change.

O God of love and new life, even to those of us who do not claim to be much of anything in our world - you invited us into the character of your gracious Reign and that is enough to lift us into new life. Amen.
