Adventures... in Hope - Redeemer Devotions

The Reign of God as bounteous strength. If you have any comments - adebelak@redeemerluth.com .

The Reign of God as bounteous strength is a reality we are invited to remember and trust. When we are in the middle of experiences in which we are troubled and defeated and threatened and frightened it is not easy to remember much at all. In such cases, this Reign of God as bounteous strength is not one that we easily envision. Most often, we suffer from amnesia - we forget. Under stress and fear and anxiety, we often lose our ability to remember the promise of this Reign. When we do not remember the Reign of God as bounteous strength, it is not at all easy to trust in this power. Therefore, it is so easy to trust other powers. Many of those powers promise to save us or shelter us - but it never becomes a reality for those powers lie about that which they can do for us. They also lie very well and can be quite convincing. The Reign of God as bounteous strength does not lie - it always invites us into its power of love and forgiveness and mercy and, yes, kindness. I know, that sounds foolish. How can this be bounteous strength? Well, that is the whole story telling of Scripture - helping us remember and trust that this Reign is real and available.

O God of love and new life, let you foolishness Reign. Amen.
