Comments to: adebelak@redeemerluth.com The Reign of God as Coming Forth turns the world around and makes us all shake our heads. Do we shake them in disbelief? I wonder. We say we believe in the coming of this Reign of God and yet, it comes not as we want it to come. It looks foreign - it appears to be nonsense - it does not side with that we hold dear to our lives. Simply listen to the readings in worship each week. We hear of mercy and gentleness and justice and peace and loving kindness. Those are all qualities that sound nice but are readily thrown aside or simply used for banners or cheap church promotions. The Reign of God as Coming Forth really does press for the inclusion of all no matter what the circumstances of the day may be. Therefore, we shake our heads. Can we be a people who walk and live in such a Reign. Yes we can. It is not easy. I will meet with ridicule. It will be dismissed by most. We must remember though, that when we let ourselves be conquered by the values of the world, there will still be witnesses to the Reign of God out there among us and they will not stop being there. The Spirit of God always raises up witnesses even when we feel to weak to continue or decide we will go another way. This Reign is always Coming Forth. O God of New Life and All Hopefulness, continue to come into our lives and deliver us from the powers around us that love to pull us from your peaceable Reign. Amen.
