Redeemer Devotions for August 1, 2013

This week: God as empty tomb. If you have any comments - adebelak@redeemerluth.com [mailto:adebelak@redeemerluth.com].

God as empty tomb makes people run in amazement - shake heads in disbelief - ask

questions - and simply wonder about that which we thought we knew so well. So,

death is not here anymore. It does not rule even within the domain known so well

as its final statement and proclamation. God as empty tomb declares that the power

of death that seems to be eternal is not eternal. Life that is nurtured and sustained

by God is. Life makes the tomb empty and the life is a gift by our God who takes

tombs that are threatening and makes them spaces that can provide for life. Now,

how do we take such talk of an empty tomb and walk around this day as though we

are a part of the life that has send death out the door? I suppose it means there

will be times when we will need to take a leap over everything death appears to

rule and at other times it may mean we simple begin to wade into the crap of death

and bring a long the sweet smell of life free from death's stench.

O God of love and new life, be with us when we wade into the foul odor of death

and all of the ways it tries to hold us and control us. Let you life be a light

for us and the sweet smell of a bright new day. Amen.
