Redeemer Devotions for August 13, 2013

Adventures... in Hope - Redeemer Devotions

This week: God as evolving. If you have any comments  - adebelak@redeemerluth.com.

God as evolving demands that I keep learning and questioning and wondering about all that I have come to hear about God. God as evolving is God who wants me to be fully human - using my reason - opening doors that have been shut - willing to take another look at how God has been portrayed and how that image can be seen with new eyes. I think God as evolving smiles as we too evolve. Some folks have great doubts about the whole notion of evolution. But as I have said, they view it all about what has happened in the past. God as evolving has to do with the never-ending changes that bring out the fullness of our humanity even as we think we have come to the end or at least cannot go much farther. Into what are we evolving and how is God a part of that transformation. This is where we must always go back to the stories of our faith tradition and wonder what ancient minds thought about God and what made them take the leap to write about it and discuss it and come down here or there even when they had no 'proof.' God as evolving is the shape of this God the generations are moved to see so that we might better see our own lives and the wide open spaces into which we are invited to journey.

O God of love and new life, take us on a journey for life. Amen.
