Redeemer Devotions for October 8, 2013

Adventures... in Hope - Redeemer Devotions

This week: God as creative life-giving. If you have any comments  - adebelak@redeemerluth.com.

Maybe it would help to remember that we can imagine a life in which death has no power over us. We usually don't go there. We usually only do what I am doing - write about it. And yet, It is the life that we must keep bringing to mind so that we are encouraged to go there and live there and pitch our tent in the midst of all the others who are able to walk right into the valley of death and have a picnic - without fear and trembling. God as creative life-giving is the only God - the God of life that no power can destroy. As we are inspired to walk along the way of Jesus, the violence of death is less able to move us. As we are grasped by the Spirit of our Lord, Jesus, the lies of death's power are revealed even before they are able to sway us into following their ways and living within their realm. God as creative life-giving may mean we boldly step into a life we have never considered because we were so bound up by all the ropes and strings of death that usually are able to pull us and trip us and move us away from life eternal. God as creative life-giving is life now - justice now - forgiveness now - mercy now - open minds and hearts and doors now. The creativity of our God is life-giving.

O God of love and new life, help us rest and lay out the picnic blanket of hope within the turmoil of death's threats. Amen.
