Redeemer Devotions for December 8, 2014

Adventures... in Hope - Redeemer Devotions

The Reign of God as on the road again. If you have any comments - adebelak@redeemerluth.com .

The Reign of God as on the road again reminds us that this whole life keeps moving - it takes us from the places we tend to stay and takes us along the way to a new life. It is often easy to stay in the places in which we have come to feel comfortable - easy to settle in - easy to feel safe - easy to make boundaries and barriers. The Reign of God as on the road again invites us to consider a road trip. This is not the controlled trip we usually take - the one that keeps us within the world we know even when we are away from home. This road trip will take us into the lives of others - strangers - and situations that will make us mix it up with any and all of God's beloved. In the middle of a violent world in which the powers that be seem to be able t create a society as they want it, this road trip may mean we will walk on roads with those who do not fit in with the dominant culture. In the U.S. of A, that means we step across lines and biases based on the color of ones skin or the neighborhood in which folks may live. The Reign of God as on the road again keeps opening up new avenues we can walk so that our lives expand  and we find ourselves walking with strangers who have become our friends.

O God of love and new life, before we take off and walk with you through the days  of our lives,  we need your Holy Spirit to lead the way and embolden us. Amen.
