Redeemer Devotions for April 4, 2014

Adventures... in Hope - Redeemer Devotions

This week: God as breaking new ground. If you have any comments - adebelak@redeemerluth.com .

God as breaking new ground is the God who disrupted the life of Abram and Sarai - even changed their names in the process. This is the God who intends to make all things whole and well. This is not just for a few chosen folks. It is for the whole world. The new ground is that there is really only one ground - one peace - one humanity - one call to live fully. God as breaking new ground will always shake us up so that our way of seeing how the world needs to go will be drawn into question and we will be sent in another way. That is not easy for any of us. God as breaking new ground is not the God who protects us as we go along the life we choose for our own welfare. Rather, as we make our minds up as to who we are and what we will be doing and how we will live these lives we have designed, this God is not moved by our visions. God as breaking new ground is crumbling the ground under all of us in the hope that we will not claim that any ground is ours for the keeping. It is in that crumbling that our claims are reshaped and God begins to show us all how we journey into a promised land.

O God of love and new life, when you disrupt our lives we are often afraid of what will come and what will happen to all of our fine plans and ideas. Help us let go and follow your lead as you take us into the depths of your promises.  Amen.
